When it is determined that the old heater is beyond repair, the homeowner has a choice of a standard electric/gas, or a tankless water heater. Each offers different qualities that are designed to fulfill the average needs of the consumer. In 2015 the Department of Energy efficiency standards set new manufacturing rules regarding water heaters, making them more energy efficient. All of the water heaters we sell comply with the new energy efficient standards.

    Electric water heaters

Electric water heaters are generally available in ranges from 20 to 80 gallon models. These models come in many different width and height sizes. This makes it possible to easily obtain a heater that will fit in any space and allows you to have the amount of hot water needed to fit your particular needs.

Hot water heaters have improved greatly over the years and it is now possible to obtain units that are labeled ‘energy efficient’. This makes it important to look for the ENERGY STAR® label when making a purchase.

You will find a wide range of prices so it is easy to find one that will fit your budget. Our plumbing specialists will be happy to point out the various features of each heater and offer suggestions regarding which models would fit your particular situation.

    Tankless Water Heaters

During recent years tankless water heaters, also called instantaneous heaters, have become very popular. Because electric tankless water heaters eliminate standby losses, which occur in regular heaters, many models are very energy efficient.

This type of water heater is especially designed for homes that typically use 41 gallons or less of hot water (approximately 86 gallons per day). If your home uses more than that, ENERGY STAR® states that even greater energy savings can be achieved if a several tankless water heaters are installed.

This type of water heater has the advantage of directly heating water at 2-5 gallons per minute, without needing a storage tank. This allows a constant supply of hot water with no waiting for the cold water to be heated as is required in a regular water heater.

Although tankless water heaters are more expensive than standing models, they last longer and have lower energy and operating costs. The majority of these water heaters have a life expectancy of 20 or more years, while the regular high quality water heater usually lasts 10-15 years.

    Water Heater Installation

Whether you choose to have a regular or tankless water heater installed, proper installation is essential. This will assure that the optimum safety and energy efficiency is obtained.

Factors to be considered are the climate, local building code requirements, fuel type and safety issues. This makes it essential to have a qualified plumbing contractor do the installation. 919-Plumber is fully licensed and insured in North Carolina.
